Savta Bikorta (“Grandma Critic”) is a series of satirical video clips in the style of children’s storytelling. The videos tell the story of real rulings issued by the the State Rabbinic Courts in Israel.
Created in 2009, the series remains relevant to this day.
Savta Bikorta is a fictional character played by the actress and comedian Devorah Evron. The ideas expressed in the clips have absolutely nothing to do with the personal opinions or ideas of Devorah and are the responsibility, and reflect the sensibilities, of CWJ.
No fault of the husband is grounds for divorce in a rabbinic court. Even when a husband has molested his own child, the rabbinic courts do not view this as ground for divorce.
There is nothing that a woman can claim in court—violence, abandonment, infidelity, for example—that will guarantee her the right to divorce.
The rabbinic court can undo a conversion of many years with sleight of hand, and when you’re not even expecting it and thought you were just going for a get.
Marital property issues are reopened in the rabbinic courts at the request of the husband, leaving both the wife’s personal status and property at the mercy of the husband and court
How a woman hired a detective to find her husband, found him, brought him to the rabbinic court, and how the court let him go and 9 years have passed without remedy or relief. (English with Hebrew subtitles)
